Croc AI Privacy Policy
Last updated: August 1, 2026
Overview
Croc AI is a Chrome side-panel browser assistant. Croc is designed to use Chrome's built-in, on-device AI capabilities. Croc does not operate a developer backend, require an account, run advertising, sell user data, or share user data with third parties for advertising or profiling.
Data Croc handles
Croc handles data only when needed for a feature the user directly requests. Depending on the feature, this can include current-page text, selected text, images the user asks Croc to explain, editable text the user asks Croc to write or proofread, browser tabs, bookmarks, browsing history, and Reading List entries.
For example, Croc reads page content to answer a question about the current page, reads history only when the user asks to search or clear it, and reads selected or editable text only when the user invokes a related feature.
Local processing and storage
Croc's AI features use Chrome's built-in AI APIs and are processed on the device where supported by Chrome. Croc does not send chat messages, page content, history, bookmarks, or generated results to a Croc-operated server.
Croc stores user preferences and user-created reminders in Chrome's local extension storage. Chat history is not saved by default. Screenshots are copied or downloaded only when the user explicitly requests it.
Voice input
Croc can start Chrome's speech-recognition capability when the user explicitly chooses voice input. Croc does not operate a voice-transcription server. Any handling performed by Chrome's speech-recognition service is governed by Chrome and Google policies.
Permissions
Croc requests Chrome permissions solely to provide its user-facing features, including the side panel, page assistance on sites the user visits, context-menu actions, tab, bookmark and history search, Reading List actions, reminders, screenshots, and reading controls. Croc does not use permissions for advertising, profiling, or background browsing surveillance.
Data sharing and retention
Croc does not sell, rent, or share user data. Croc does not retain chat history by default. Locally stored preferences and reminders remain until the user changes, deletes, or uninstalls the extension. Browser data remains subject to the user's Chrome settings and controls.
Changes to this policy
If Croc's data practices change, this policy will be updated before or when the relevant extension update is released.
